This arched cellar, dug out of the rock, was still filled in with earth until a few years ago: the previous owners, intrigued by the hollow sound underfoot discovered a narrow hole leading down to it. They emptied it of its earth to restore its use as a cellar.
I discovered two ventilation windows which had been blocked up. By opening them up again, the rays of sunshine could penetrate once more into this space…. And so was born this peaceful sitting room, a little set aside and always delightfully refreshing in summer!
In order to access it, a semi-circular stone staircase was created, dressed with a pretty undulating metal ramp. In the floor, a “beach of light” was created under glass. Filled with sand and shells from Brittany – my original homeland is ever present. |
